Sri Lankan Fish Patties Recipe

One of the favourite spicy snacks of my family is these delicious & crispy fish patties. It's favourably goes with afternoon tea .These lovely pieces are one of my favourite party items, loved by everybody.

Making Dough

Take a bowl and add all-purpose flour, butter, salt, sugar and cold water.

Add the cold w\ater little by little and knead the dough. Knead the dough for at least 10 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic but not sticky. Keep the dough aside for at least 1 hour before making the patties.

To Make Filing:

Heat oil in a sauce pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot enough add mustard seeds, let it splutter. Then add the Fennel seeds. Add garlic, onion, Green chillies, and curry leaves into the pan & give it a quick stir. Fry them for 2 minutes under medium flame.

Now add the Tin Fish, turmeric powder, Chili Flakes and curry powder. Mash the fish chunks a little and mix everything well. Cook covered under medium flame for 3 minutes.

Add potatoes and fry them for another 2 minutes under low flame. And mashed the potatoes & mix well. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.

Finally add the pepper course & mix well, cook further 2 mins.

Take it out of the heat and let it cool until dough is ready.

Get ready with all the things you need to make the patties.

Now take a small ball from the dough and roll out that in the surface to a thin layer. Cut circles using a circle cutter. Fill the curry using a spoon. Fold the other side of the dough over, and roll and crimp the edges. Lightly press a fork around the edge of the patties.

Now take a small ball from the dough and roll out that in the surface to a thin layer. Now put that thin layer on top of the patties cutter. Fill the curry using a spoon.

At last, close and tighten the patties cutter. Take out the excess part of that thin layer and then open it.

Heat the oil in a deep fry wok. When oil is hot & bubbly and place the patties carefully. Fry patties for about 5 minutes until both sides are light brown.

Once patties start to get light brown, take them out & place fried patties on a paper towel to extract extra oil. Serve warm with tomato ketchup, and enjoy this delicious snack with your family or friends.
